At The George Eliot Academy, we believe that a great education goes beyond academic achievement. Our aim is to develop pupils’ character, compassion, and sense of service, guided by our STAR values: Self-discipline, Tenacity, Ambition, and Responsibility. We encourage young people to contribute actively to their school and wider society, to embrace challenges they might initially think are beyond them, and to persevere in the face of difficulty. Pupils are supported to become resilient, manage themselves effectively, work independently and collaboratively, demonstrate courage and care, and develop leadership skills.
Our vision for Character Education is to nurture pupils who are resilient, compassionate, and ambitious, helping them develop personal qualities, values, and attitudes alongside their academic learning. Through Character Education, pupils are empowered to make positive choices, overcome challenges, contribute meaningfully to their communities, and thrive both in school and in the wider world.
Character Education at George Eliot Academy is embedded throughout the school experience. It takes place in a variety of ways, including form time character sessions, PSHE lessons, enrichment activities, assemblies, and careers education, ensuring that pupils regularly have opportunities to reflect, develop, and apply the skills and values that will support them throughout their lives.
We want pupils to look back on their time at George Eliot Academy as joyful, inspiring, and challenging—a time when they had the opportunity to grow, explore, and broaden their horizons. We are committed to offering a broad and balanced curriculum, enriched with cultural, social, and extracurricular experiences that nurture character, build confidence, and prepare pupils to navigate the ups and downs of life with resilience, purpose, and ambition.
