On Saturday 25th April, staff from George Eliot Academy, joined by family, friends, and a few enthusiastic dogs, completed a 6km charity walk, averaging around 10,000 steps each, to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust.
A huge well done to all staff who took part, it was a brilliant turnout and a lovely example of our school community coming together for a meaningful cause. We are delighted to share that we have already raised £250, with donations continuing to come in.
This cause is especially close to our school community. Over the years, we have had pupils, past and present, who have bravely faced cancer, and we wanted to come together to do something meaningful in their honour. By taking on this walk, we hope to stand in solidarity with those young people and their families, raise awareness, and support a charity that provides life-changing care, so teenagers never have to face cancer alone.
Our Principal, Homeira Zakary, shared her thoughts on the day:
“This challenge is about more than steps; it is about standing alongside the young people in our community who have faced cancer with bravery. I am so grateful to everyone that took part and everyone that has donated so far, supporting Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity that makes a real difference to teenagers and their families.”
Pupil Sponsored Walk Challenge – May
Alongside the staff walk, pupils are taking part in a month-long sponsored walk challenge running throughout May. Pupils will be completing their own walks, tracking their steps, collecting sponsorships, and submitting their total number of steps at the end of the month. We will be combining staff and pupil totals to see how far our school community has walked together.
Every penny truly counts. All donations go directly to Teenage Cancer Trust, helping to fund world‑class cancer services for young people across the UK. Your support makes a real difference to teenagers and families facing the most challenging moments of their lives. You can donate via the following link - https://gofund.me/fadad851a
Thank you to everyone who has taken part so far and to those who continue to support the fundraiser.
